From bump to baby, the journey of motherhood is a fascinating one. That's why whenever we get an assignment for a maternity photoshoot, we feel so so pleased. When Aleah Dela Cruz called us excitedly for a photo session, we immediately started planning. We wanted her photos to be stunning as well as emotional so that she would cherish them.
Aleah and her partner wanted the maternity album to be plain and candid. They were super excited about the baby and wanted the photos to depict their feelings. So, we decided to go prop-less and highlight their emotions.
For the first photo, Aleah chose a whitish-pink full-sleeved gown. It was simple but highlighted her curves well. Her partner was in casuals. His blue shirt and jeans complement Aleah's outfit. So, we chose a deep blue background to make the photo more prominent.
The would-be mom and dad were beaming with joy. They locked hands and looked into each other's eyes. Aleah kept her hair loose Such a simple photo, and yet it tells the story of their parenthood beautifully.
Pregnancy is a magnificent experience for every woman. At the same time, it is also a period of physical and mental changes, discomfort, and stress. For our maternity photoshoots, we try our best to ensure the safety and comfort of the would-be-moms. We always pre-plan the shoots so that the would-be-moms don't have to spend too much time in our Glasgow studio. Moreover, we insist on wearing loose and comfortable clothes that won't cause discomfort. If we use any props for the session, we choose only safe and hygienic items.
With Aleah, we practised the basic safety norms. To make her comfortable, we engaged in chit-chats. It was a friendly session and completed as per our plan.
Aleah loves white, so she chose an off-shoulder front-slit gown for the next shot. It was time to celebrate her motherhood intimately. So, the couple got closer. Again, we kept things simple. We took the snap against a blue backdrop. Aleah stood in front, with her partner holding the bump from behind. It portrayed the eternal love that parents shower on their babies.
It was time to try something different as Aleah was getting easy in front of the camera. We decided to take a silhouette shot to highlight her bump. The father held the bump along with the mom. We took this photo against a white background. I love the way his nose touches her forehead. Years later, they will remember this day when they look at this snap.
Light can do wonders. I often look through my camera and get mesmerized by the play of light and shadow. Although Aleah didn't want any drama or made-up look for her maternity photos, we used only light to make our shots dramatic. The final snap is a fine example of what you can do with light.
Aleah changed into a beautiful pink gown with all-over embroidery. She stood against a white curtain. We captured her photo without using any additional light. She looks absolutely stunning and, at the same time, peaceful. You cannot see her face clearly, yet you can make out that she is in deep thought. Maybe she imagines her baby and gets eager to hold her in her hands. Or is she praying for her little one? We don't know, but this shot shows what motherhood is.
The photoshoot finally came to an end. We bid goodbye to Aleah. We wish her all the best and hope her world will always be filled with love and laughter.
